The Protein Ball co Chai Latte and Cacao + Orange

Chai Latte Recipe

February 12, 2019

Winter.

There is something so comforting and relaxing about curling up on the sofa or in bed with a warm blanket, a cozy knit, a good book and a big frothy chai tea latte.

Chai has a history that goes back thousands of years, said to date back to between 5000-9000 years ago to an ancient court. Masala chai was made with a wide variety of spices and prepared with many different methods which was then served either hot or cold as a remedy for mild ailments.

It didn't contain black tea until the 1930's though.

This makes one cup.

Ingredients

  • 1/8 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/8 tsp cardamom
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp raw local honey
  • 2 tbs loose leaf rooibos tea or decaf black tea
  • 1 cup water
  • Optional for Whipped Topping: 1 can full-fat canned coconut milk

Methods

  • Boil water and allow tea to steep for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add steeped tea to a small saucepan and add spices, almond milk, and honey.

  • Whisk mixture until well combined.

  • At this point you can pour your latte into a mug and enjoy, but for an even frothier version we recommend adding the combined latte mixture to a blender and blend on high for a few minutes.
  • Optional: For a whipped topping, take the thick cream from a full-fat can of coconut milk, and whip with a hand mixture, or whisk. Top latte with whipped coconut cream, and sprinkle with cinnamon, or garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy.

Perfect with our Cacao + Orange protein balls.
